An amazing final day in Event #25: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship, where Sammy Farha repelled the advance from the UK's James Dempsey to take down his third WSOP gold bracelet.
In an event which carried on until the early hours of the morning in Las Vegas, Sammy Farha out-lasted the plucky Brit in a
gruelling heads-up battle which lasted for well over three hours. Earning himself $488,237, Farha when asked if he felt he was best in the world at Omaha stated "I think so." with a massive grin. Eventually, at 07:00 am in the morning in Vegas, the legendary Farha finally overcame the classy Dempsey to an ecstatic crowd and weary-eyed journalists. Picking up $301,790, Dempsey was gracious in defeat after coming so close to a second gold bracelet in World Series 2010.
The final table was exhilarating with the lead changing hands several times, Dempsey would not lie down and indeed, held the lead for a brief while, before suffering a crippling blow when Farha held Aces full in a monster pot. After that Dempsey down to his final $200,000 chips was all-in and Farhas' hand held. On the rail, an excited British audience was in good voice singing and waving shoes in the air for some bizarre reason.
Sammy Farha the high-stakes legend has now won three gold bracelets, adding to his previous wins in 2006 and 1996, both in Omaha events. The hand that did the damage was huge for Farha, who hit an Aces over Kings full house on the river to demolish Dempseys stake. Chips were pumped into the pot by Farha from the off, re-raising pre-flop to make a million chip pot before a card had even been seen. Farha continued to fire on all streets to the showdown, eventually facing a huge river bet Dempsey took a bite from his breakfast sandwich and called. A smile broke out from ear to ear on Farhas face as he showed Aces full, Dempsey mucked with a gentlemanly 'Good hand' and that was that.
