Home - Latest News - The First WSOP 2010 bracelet sails back to the UK
In the World Series of Poker 2010, Praz Bansi from London, UK claimed his second career bracelet in the $1500 No-Limit event. Bansi a highly skilled member of the Uk's 'Hit Squad,' which includes some of the best of British poker talent, prevailed in a heads-up battle with Vincent Jacques (CAN) to take down the $515,501 purse.
Last year was without doubt the Year of the British at the World Series of Poker. And Bansi will be looking forward to adding to his two gold bracelets, with further success later in the month. It has been a terrific few years for Bansi, who so nearly earned his second WSOP bracelet in European event in 2009. It is quite a remarkable achievement for this group of gentleman. The Hit Squad is made up from some of the most impressive poker players, notably James Akenhead, who won both the 'Full Tilt Poker Million' and 'Poker After Dark' tournaments in 2009. Also, making up the team is Chaz Chattha, Sunny Chattha, Karl Mahrenholz, who between them have racked up some decidedly eye catching results on both sides of the Atlantic.
Bansi's personal earnings in poker have now rocketed through the $2 million barrier, not bad for a gentleman who only started out professionally in the game four years ago. It was in 2006, that Bansi achieved his first bracelet when victorious in the $1000 No-Limit Hold' em event. This year it was far more comfortable for him, he barely disappeared from the top ten leader board all tournament and had built up an impressive chip lead on the final table. In the end, the chips, all went in pre-flop with Bansi having his opponents A8 crushed with AJ the hand held up to take the crown.
The final placings for tournament # 5 $1500 buy-in:
1/ Praz Bansi $515,501 United Kingdom
2/ Vincent Jacques $320,913 Canada
3/ Calvin Kordus $223,069 United States
4/ David Tuthill $160,650 United States
5/ Tomer Berda $117,416 United States
6/ Donald Offord $86,858 United States
7/ Hugh Bell $65,097 Dominican Republic
8/ David Sands $67,221 United States
9/ Kyle Knecht $37,943 United States
It would appear that further success may be around the corner for the UK. In event #6 the $5000 No-Limit Hold' em Shootout, the UK, have strong representation with both Neil Channing and Stuart Rutter making the final six. Perhaps Bansi's win will start off a a good run for the UK players, which is one of the strongest seen at the Las Vegas showpiece for a many a year. As I write, Channing/Rutter have seen two players eliminated, the final is down to four players with both players on decent stacks.
Other winners: Aadam Daya picked up his first World Series of Poker bracelet when he took down Event #3: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em after outlasting a massive field of over 4,000 players to join the ranks of winners this year. The amateur beat the short stacked Deepak Bhatti to pick up the $625,872 pay-check.
